Mr Hyde 'High & Dry' Mourvèdre 2015 750mL

$30.00 each

Description

A serious, savoury wine that has developed into something spicy and delicious! A faded brick colour tells you that this is a wine of some age - the nose is spicy and rich, and promises warmth and comfort. Savoury and fruity at the same time, with raisin, sultana and coffee flavours. A wine for winter, armchairs and fireplaces. Despite the evil 'Jekyll & Hyde' reference of Mr. Hyde wines, these small batch 'alternative variety' wines are nothing to fear. What they definitely show, however, are distinctive personalities. Single varietal wines, sourced from individual blocks owned by the legendary Clare Valley winery - Kilikanoon. We are of course in South Australia, where winemaker and proprietor Kevin Mitchell has dedicated his life's work to a property of the same name, in the hamlet of Penwortham. Located approximately 2 hours drive north of Adelaide, the Clare Valley is one of the premium wine growing regions of the world. Hailing from a long line of wine grape growers, Kevin produced the first wines under the Kilikanoon label in 1997. These wines were, and continue to be, based on vineyards that were planted and looked after by Kevin's father Mort, as far back as the 1960s. Mort is a legend in the Clare Valley, and is honoured by the eponymous 'Mort's Block' Riesling. Whilst these classic wines are wonderful, we are most intrigued by the 'dark side', brought to you by Mr. Hyde.
